Lezlee Matthews, PhD., is an experienced educational administrator, urban planner, and facilitator. Dr. Matthews is director of Co-Curricular Learning, Educational equity, and Assessment for the Division of Student Affairs at San Jose State University. Under the leadership of the VP for Student Affairs, she supports programs in Campus Life; Health, Wellness and Student Services; and, Student Success. She serves on the campuswide Accreditation Review Committee and on the Campus Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Dr. Matthews holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Urban Planning from UCLA, and a B.A. (summa cum laude) in Sociology and Religion from Tarkio College (Missouri). She advanced department goals and initiatives as fellowship program director for community engagement fellows at Loyola Marymount University, where she also was director of Community-Based Learning. Dr. Matthews served as chair of the academic senate committee on Internships and Service Learning, and teacher of service-learning courses, while an assistant professor of African American Studies at CSU Fullerton. Publications and research explore community self-determination and sustainability, faith-based and secular organization activism in grassroots community development, hunger and food banks on college campuses, and solutions to social inequality associated with race and ethnicity. Past work supported by generous funding from California Campus Compact (Loyola Marymount University), the Office of the President (CSU Fullerton), the Community Outreach Partnership Center (UCLA), and the Office of University Partnerships (HUD).
