Developing an Online Asynchronous Learning Paradigm that Improves Equity and Student Outcomes while Lowering Costs
Description

The successful evolution to a 100% asynchronous learning paradigm will be described and its outcomes shared. Simply replicating online what was done in classrooms would not work. Rather, effective asynchronous analogs to face-to-face (f2f) methods needed to be developed. Examples to be discussed include creating Asynchronous Virtual Constructivism to replace f2f Social Constructivism; using Proctorio remote proctoring to ensure academic integrity; creating virtual labs that meet the learning objectives of each physical lab; and monitoring student progress using individual student goals and start dates rather than traditional lockstep progress within an academic calendar. This evolution took years…and is still underway.
