Many students – especially those who are the first in their family to attend college – view higher education as preparing them for workforce entry. However, faculty typically feel their role is giving students discipline-specific knowledge. Attend this session to learn how this fundamental tension can be resolved by considering core competencies and program learning outcomes. We’ll also examine novel curricular and co-curricular approaches for helping students connect their educational journeys to their future careers.

A recent survey showed that employers are looking for employees with life skills, but often college graduates don’t possess these skills. The School of Business and Economics at Concordia University addresses this need through the Internship program. CUI’s SOBE Internship gives students the opportunity to gain experience in these important areas. In this session, CUI’s SOBE will share its design for an internship that prepares students for success in the real world of business.
