After retiring from the military, Dr. Shelia Lewis began her 23 years in higher education by teaching at Central Texas College in Fort Hood, Texas serving on an Accreditation Team in preparation for a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) site visit. After conferral of a PhD in Business Administration, she joined Touro University International as the Director of Institutional Research in 2007 and worked closely on an Accreditation Team in preparation for a WASC site visit. She later joined Touro University Worldwide (TUW) in the roles of Director of the School of Business and Management, Associate Provost for Quality Assurance, Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO), and the current TUW Provost since 2018. Her leadership background and higher education accreditation knowledge spawned roles that include a previous CHEA Recognition Observer and a current WSCUC Substantive Change Committee member since 2020. Overall, she values the collaboration between accreditors and accredited institutions’ stakeholders and its contribution to assure quality in the shifting higher education landscape.  Many of the articles she has authored or co-authored reflect her forward thinking in higher education that range from assessment of learning outcomes in dual modalities (on-ground versus online) to assuring student learning outcomes achievement through effective faculty development.
