Kevin W. Kaatz is Professor of History and the Director of General Education at California State University, East Bay. He teaches courses in ancient history, and has published widely on early Christianity, Japanese American internment, and assessment practices in higher education. His research includes work on Roman and Egyptian technology (forthcoming), and he serves as lead author/editor on publications such as Roman Society: Republic to Empire: An Anthology, and Documents of the Rise of Christianity: Eyewitness to History. He is active in faculty development and equity-focused assessment initiatives, including securing grants to address equity gaps in general education. Outside the university, he contributes to historical organizations (for example, the Berkeley Architectural Historical Association), working on archival projects and public history.
