Bio
Daniela Deutsch is the Dean of the School of Architecture at the NewSchool of Architecture and Design. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture from the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany.
In addition to her role as Dean, Daniela serves as a Professor and the fourth-year level coordinator, having led the Integrated Design Studio for over 14 years. She also oversees the Environmental Systems and Professional Practice course sequences within the Architecture programs. Daniela is a strong advocate for a collaborative and integrated approach to architecture, particularly emphasizing sustainable and energy-efficient design—a field she is deeply passionate about. She also serves on the Board of the San Diego Green Building Council.
As Dean, Daniela aims to balance teaching, research, and practice, ensuring that both students and faculty excel in these areas. She is committed to fostering critical thinking among her students, encouraging them to engage with key architectural issues and develop informed perspectives. Her vision is to cultivate confident, forward-thinking designers who approach the profession with creativity, optimism, and a provocative spirit.
In her additional capacity as the Architecture Programs Assessment Coordinator, Daniela works closely with the Assessment Leadership Council (ALC) to develop and refine assessment methods. This includes mentoring part-time faculty on how to evaluate unique learning outcomes, design appropriate assignments, and implement rubrics and benchmarks effectively.
