The 2019 WSCUC response to our interim report called to action on faculty-led assessment. As we started to address this, we uncovered complex challenges unique to a small institution with limited resources - a lack of capacity, infrastructure, consistent leadership, professional development opportunities, administrative support, faculty appetite, and time to conduct robust assessment. These challenges have been addressed with a three phased approach: Building infrastructure; Leveraging existing resources; and Implementing systems for continuous improvement. We will share concrete examples for each phase and invite the attendees to consider a new strategy for building a capacity for meaningful and sustainable assessment at their institution.
