This presentation addresses the critical role of faculty diversity in promoting student success in higher education. We will explore obstacles to faculty diversity, such as bias in student course evaluations and supervisory evaluations. This bias can compound prior discrimination trauma based on race, gender, age, disability, neurodivergence, appearance, and other characteristics, resulting in a higher turnover of faculty from marginalized groups. We highlight innovative and more objective alternatives to traditional evaluations, using AI to mitigate bias, and creating trauma-informed faculty development to support a more inclusive environment. Attendees will gain actionable strategies for supporting faculty diversity, ultimately enhancing student outcomes and promoting equity in academia.
