Data-informed decision-making has been a central focus in higher education, with significant efforts from WSCUC (e.g., KID) and various institutions. Our strategic plan and WSCUC’s action letter spurred the revitalization of data governance. We will introduce our challenges, such as departmental silos and poor data hygiene, and our strategies to address them. SMC recently revitalized data governance leadership, established a mission and a foundational framework, launched data cleaning projects, and initiated active data sharing. Attendees will learn how SMC revitalized data governance leadership, launched data cleaning projects, empowered data stewards, and implemented feedback loops for better decision-making and institutional growth.
