This presentation will share how the University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu developed a Data Fellows program to lead campus action research and provide professional development in institutional data collection, analysis, and dissemination with a team of fellows representing faculty and staff from across the institution. The fellows are mentored by campus leaders as they address a campus identified Problem of Practice, such as enrollment management, and identify several possible solutions through their in-depth research and analysis of disaggregated data. We will share the details of the second year of the data fellowship program with a focus on how the action research is being used to strengthen strategic decision making on campus.

The implementation of a KPI-driven Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) system at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) addresses the challenge of ensuring compliance with institutional and programmatic accreditation standards while driving institutional excellence. This session will explore how the CQI system supports strategic objectives and continuous improvement across all program areas. Attendees will learn actionable strategies for monitoring performance, addressing underperformance, and leveraging data to meet accreditation requirements. San José State University is evaluating its policies related to student success. One key question is whether current practices are effective. The answers vary: some efforts remain uncertain, while others succeed but benefit too few students for the resources invested. As the campus lead for the AASCU Student Success Equity Intensive (SSEI), the AVP for Undergraduate Advising and Success invited the Vice Provost for Academic Innovation to the team, to ensure an evidence-based approach. The Director of Assessment was also involved in shaping our SSEI goals. This session aims to discuss whether starting with the end in mind enhances our work or limits creativity, the ethical implications of these collaborations, and best practices emerging out of our work together.
