For over 40 years, Teresa Garcia has supported students’ transfer journeys from Santa Monica College. At the inception of UCLA’s Transfer Alliance Program (TAP), the Scholars Program was established at SMC to be an instrumental catalyst for maintaining and nurturing this valued transfer agreement and relationship between the two campuses. As a result of TAP, many SMC students have benefited and transferred to UCLA in great numbers over the past five decades. For more than half of her career at SMC, both as a Scholars Program Leader and Counselor, Ms. Garcia has played a critical role in facilitating the transfer process and connecting community college students to premier institutions such as UCLA. She considers her many years of contributing and working as the Santa Monica College representative on UCLA’s TAP advisory group to be some of the most worthwhile elements of her career.
