Bio
Helen Hopp Marshak, PhD, is the Associate Provost for Loma Linda University. She previously served as Dean of the LLU School of Public Health. Her interest in the critical social determinants of population health and health behavior was based early on with her education as a social psychologist, with an emphasis in health services at the University of Washington in Seattle. Her research and practice interests include evaluation of tobacco control programs for the States of California and Washington, and more broadly, identifying social and personal factors that place people at risk, or generate resilience. She served as an exam item writer on the first National Board of Public Health Education CPH Exam, for the behavioral and social science section, and was Vice Chair of the LLU Institutional Review Board for over a decade. She served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at LLU SPH prior to becoming Dean from 2015-2022, and as a faculty member in the area of health education since she arrived at LLU. Participated in the ASPPH Academic Public Health Leadership Institute cohort (2019-2020) and the WSCUC Accreditation Leadership Academic (2024-2025, Cohort 14).
