Name
Launch and Data Management of Teaching Apprenticeships
Description

In 2022, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden announced, in partnership with the US Departments of Education and Labor, the goal to create teaching apprenticeships in all 50 states, Washington, DC, and territories. By fall of 2023, 29 had launched at least one registered apprenticeship program (RAP). These pathways hold immense opportunities to create more equitable, learner-centered opportunities-- and ones closely linked with gainful employment opportunities upon graduation-- but they also present significant new questions. Namely, teachers must earn an accredited bachelors degree and state teaching credential, but the government's apprenticeship processes and existing data collection tools are not built for higher education. This workshop will summarize the most common obstacles and current solutions educator preparation providers have discovered over the past 2 years. It will also share tangible next steps for any accredited program looking to access apprenticeship funding-- both the launch process, and ongoing data reporting requirements. Attendees will leave with a concrete roadmap on how they can take the next step in this process for their institution, tailored to where they're currently at.
