This session communicates a systematic investigatory assessment approach at an Art and Design college where each layer of discovery uncovers opportunities to improve student learning and teaching practices, ultimately improving academic effectiveness and shifting department culture. Using a single department as case study, this session showcases how practitioners can leverage Tableau analytics (department retention and graduation rates, grade distribution, course success/fail rates), course evaluations open ended responses (satisfaction, effectiveness, strengths vs improvements), faculty and alumni surveys, and withdrawal data to analyze, evaluate, and transform student learning and instructional strategies. As a result of this well ordered approach, higher education professionals are empowered to leverage the use of qualitative and quantitative data in program review, as well as increase data engagement, unconfuse and demystify data, and expand data literacy amongst stakeholders.
