Walking the Walk by Closing the Loop in the Program Review Process
Presentation 1 Description

Cal Poly Pomona updated its academic program review process to engage programs more intentionally in meaningful evaluation via an infrastructure supported by faculty on campus. Several programs have now engaged in program review through the revamped process, leading to the identification of areas that benefit from additional support. This session will share current closing the loop efforts that target increased transparency and buy-in with programs undergoing the program review process.

Presentation 2 Title
Aligning Core Competency and Program Level Assessment: Two Assessment Needs with One Assessment Ask
Presentation 2 Description

How can we make assessment more efficient and meaningful for the people who are expected to be doing the assessment? Faculty evaluate teaching and learning in courses they teach routinely, but frequently struggle with program level assessment and don’t always see the connections to core competency assessment. We asked faculty to assess a core competency in a course they teach and link that assessment to student learning in a program learning outcome. This gave faculty practical experience in program level assessment. Faculty learned about student learning at the course and program level and identified ways to improve teaching and learning. We were able to aggregate data across courses to document student learning at an institutional level. This approach has promise for meeting multiple assessment needs in a way that faculty find meaningful.
