Name
Ensuring High Quality Prison Education Programs (PEPs)
Description
Thanks to robust state, national, and philanthropic funding, many WSCUC-member colleges currently provide postsecondary educational programming to people who are incarcerated. If college in prison programs wish to draw down Pell Grants for their students, they must first become an approved Prison Education Program (PEP). To offer an approved PEP there is a multi-step pre-approval process, as well as a post-approval process. This session will provide WSCUC-member institutions with a rundown of the PEP approval process that includes colleges receiving approval from an oversight entity, accreditor, and the US Department of Education.
