Ellen Baker Derwin is Professor Emeritus of Communications at the University of Massachusetts Global. Before retiring from her role as Associate Vice Chancellor of Institutional Curriculum and Assessment, Dr. Derwin enjoyed over 30 years of higher education experience in admissions, marketing, student services, faculty development, educational effectiveness, instructional design, and curriculum innovation. Her expertise includes working with a variety of pedagogical formats (face-to-face, online, blended/hybrid, and competency-based) and a range of programs including Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees as well as certificates and credentials. She has provided consulting services and interactive training to public and private institutions on a variety of topics including student success strategies, durable skills, first generation learners, and instructional design. She also has experience managing non-profit organizations, including overseeing grant writing, fundraising, volunteer engagement and educational programming. Ellen served on peer review teams for WSCUC for ten years and was a Substantive Change Committee member and co-chair. Dr. Derwin is an alumna of the WSCUC Accreditation Leadership Academy and mentored ALA participants. She holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s in Psychology with a focus on media from Fielding Graduate University, a Master’s in Social Ecology from the University of California at Irvine, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Denison University. In her role as part-time Associate at WSCUC, she appreciates the opportunity to continue her dedication to high standards of quality, effectiveness, engagement and relevance within the evolving landscape of higher education.
