As an institution committed to radical transformation, the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) adopted Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging as a core commitment. This commitment wasn’t a reflection of lofty ideals, but, rather, a catalyst for change. DEIB values changed the university in ways big and small—each action, interaction, iteration having a ripple effect. Today we wish to share the ways in which CIIS operationalized DEIB values and how these values operationalized the institution.

Implicit bias impacts both healthcare and healthcare education. Qualitative research was used to determine whether nurse educators' awareness of their implicit biases could impact their future educational practice. The literature search revealed abundant evidence regarding the effects of implicit bias on patient and student outcomes. The results of this study indicate that awareness of implicit bias can prompt a desire to mitigate its effects in interactions with students. Various mitigation strategies are discussed.
