Charles D. Sands IV, Ph.D.
Dr. Charles D. Sands (Chuck) currently serves as the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (Chief Academic Officer) at California Baptist University (CBU). Prior to assuming this role, he served as the Founding Dean for the College of Health Science at CBU.
Sands received his B.S. from Samford University, his M.A. in Education and his Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). During his doctoral training he also served as a Fellow in the Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine at UAB. In 2007, he completed the Management Development Program from the Institute for Higher Education at Harvard University. And in 2023, he completed the Institute for Educational Management program at Harvard University.
Prior to his arrival at California Baptist University, Sands served as a Department Chair and then an Associate Dean at Samford University and he also taught classes at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Earlier in his career he served as a manager in outpatient rehabilitation at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. His particular academic areas of academic interests include leadership, health behavior, obesity, and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
In his career, Dr. Sands has also served on numerous boards and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Jilin International Medical Conference Center.
Sands is married to Jennifer Johnson Sands and they have four children and three grandchildren.
