Sal Khan is the founder and CEO of Khan Academy and Vision Steward and board member of TED, two global nonprofits that provide free education to more than 200 million people worldwide.
What began as tutoring his cousins online has grown into a platform reaching learners in more than 190 countries and more than 50 languages. For nearly two decades, Sal has worked to build an education safety net for the world, a free platform designed to give anyone, anywhere access to high-quality instruction, practice, and ways to demonstrate what they know. At the same time, Khan Academy partners with more than 550 school districts in the United States and works with school systems in countries around the world, reaching millions of students and supporting classrooms with tools that help personalize education and accelerate student learning.
Sal is the founder of Schoolhouse.world, a platform that connects learners through live peer-to-peer tutoring, dialogue, and mentorship, as well as Khan Lab School and Khan World School, which explore new models of teaching and learning.
Sal is the author of The One World Schoolhouse and Brave New Words, and co-author of Teaching Students to Use AI Ethically & Responsibly. His forthcoming book, Job Shock (2027), examines how AI will transform the future of work, and how societies can build learning systems that help people adapt, learn new skills, and thrive.
He has been recognized as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People and featured on 60 Minutes, Fox Business, CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Education Week.
Sal lives in Mountain View, California, with his family. He holds three degrees from MIT, in math, electrical engineering, and computer science, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
