In early September 2025, Apprenticeship for America (AFA) published a report titled “Learning from the Field: Making Apprenticeship Degrees Work at Scale”. The report positions apprenticeship degrees as a solution to “better integrate work-based learning into existing education systems”. However, AFA acknowledges implementing apprenticeship degrees comes with many challenges, most sobering of them–the acceptance that without employers, work-based learning is not possible. This presentation carries the torch of AFA recommendations for further research, learning from the employers to understand:
How do employers perceive apprenticeship degrees? What value do these programs bring to employers? Are there particular models of apprenticeship degrees preferred by employers? What challenges do employers face in participating? How can HEIs best engage, support, and collaborate with employers to effectively implement apprenticeship degrees?
