Mapping Student Pathways: Course Patterns Driving Transfer Success in Food Systems Programs

This presentation analyzes student pathways into and through food systems programs across the University of Hawaiʻi System, examining 8,968 undergraduates (2015–2025) across ten campuses. Focusing on course-taking patterns that support upward transfer, the study uses transcript data and data mining techniques to identify curricular flow, friction points, and equity gaps. Drawing on foundational IR research, the analysis informs strategies to improve student success, foster collaboration, and support equity-minded approaches in transdisciplinary food systems education.
