From Mission to Measurable Impact: Integrating Service, Learning, and Student Achievement at Loma Linda University
Description

Across higher education, institutions face a shared challenge: how to stay true to their mission while providing measurable evidence of student success. This symposium explores how Loma Linda University - a faith-based health sciences institution - translates its mission of service, leadership, and whole-person care into demonstrable learning and achievement outcomes.

LLU’s mission is realized through a network of mission-aligned programs that connect academic preparation with compassionate service. Among these, the Students for International Mission Service (SIMS) program stands out as a global engagement model fostering intercultural competence, empathy, and professional readiness. Alongside SIMS, other outreach initiatives - local, national, and international - reflect LLU’s wholistic commitment to transforming lives through education, service, and healing.

Drawing from assessment data, reflective learning evidence, and alumni narratives, presenters will show how LLU measures the impact of mission-centered learning on student success. Participants will gain frameworks and strategies for integrating mission-based experiences into institutional effectiveness and accreditation processes - whether in faith-based or secular contexts.
