Dr. Charlotte Redden Hamilton brings over 30 years of dedication to higher education and an unwavering commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). As Dean of the College of Social Sciences at Saybrook University, online in Pasadena, California, she plays a pivotal role in shaping academic programs that empower social change leaders. Dr. Hamilton joined Saybrook University in 2021 after a distinguished tenure as interim Dean for Academic Affairs at South University-Columbia, where she also led as the department chair for clinical mental health counseling and pioneered the Council for Diversity and Inclusion.
In addition to her current role as Saybrook University’s Accreditation Liaison Officer for WASC, Dr. Hamilton serves as the Interim Chairperson for the Department of Business Administration and Leadership and Management. Her multidisciplinary expertise and leadership extend across program development, accreditation processes, and inclusive policymaking, making her a linchpin in advancing DEI strategies within higher education.
A graduate of Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in African American Studies, Dr. Hamilton deepened her academic journey with a Master of Arts in Higher Education and Developmental Studies. She earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Virginia, where she gained valuable experience as a clinical laboratory supervisor, practicum coordinator, research assistant, and teacher's assistant.
Beyond academia, Dr. Hamilton has practiced as a psychotherapist and clinician for over two decades. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC/S), Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). With a broad spectrum of training in individual, group, and clinical counseling, she has successfully guided clients across adolescent to adult stages, focusing on developmental and situational challenges.
Dr. Hamilton's leadership, passion for DEI, and dedication to mental health make her an influential voice in navigating the complex landscape of diversity and inclusion in higher education.
