Impact of Regular and Substantive Interaction on Student Success in Online General Education Courses
Description
The Department of Education mandates Regular Substantive Interaction (RSI) for Title IV-funded online courses. This presentation examines the impact of enhanced RSI strategies on student success in large first-year general education courses at an online institution serving underrepresented and nontraditional students. Our approach extends beyond compliance, featuring hybrid instruction, increased instructor presence, multimodal feedback, personalized support, and proactive resource sharing. Attendees will learn effective RSI implementation techniques, methods for measuring impact on success and retention, as well as faculty development strategies and policies that promote RSI.
