Enhancing Internationalization of Higher Education through Online Education in Developing Countries
Description

This paper addresses the role of online education in enhancing internalization of higher education (IHE) in developing countries. The specific objectives are to investigate the role of virtual exchanges, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) as well as joint and dual degrees in enhancing IHE and to recommend strategies for enhancing IHE through online education in developing countries. The study will apply a mixed method approach combining both qualitative and quantitative data. Descriptive research design will be used to explore current practices, trends and perceptions. Primary data will be collected using online surveys while secondary data will be collected from Institutional reports, policy documents and strategic plans. The targeted population will be students, faculty and administrators of selected universities in Kenya. Stratified Sampling technique will be used to select universities from both the public and private sector. Purposive sampling will be used to collect data from the participants with relevant knowledge and experience in online education and internationalization. Quantitative data will be analysed using SPSS statistical software to generate descriptive statistics, such as frequencies, percentages, and mean while qualitative data will be analysed thematically. The study will take into consideration ethical issues by getting consent and ensure confidentiality of the participants. The study purposes to enhance internationalisation at home in developing countries currently challenged by scarcity of financial resources and funding for internationalization abroad through
