Name
Job-Embedded General Education: Bridging Liberal and Professional Education through Apprenticeship
Description

Apprenticeship and liberal arts education have historically been considered anathema to one another. As apprenticeship re-emerges as a solution to the student debt crisis and skilled worker shortage, this presentation explores how apprenticeship can restore value to the liberal arts, specifically through the general education core. This interactive workshop will explore the telos of apprenticeship, present two models of how apprenticeship can support gen ed through durable learning outcomes, and apply these models to gen ed frameworks on participants’ home campuses. Participants will be able to lead conversations on their campuses about rejuvenating the liberal arts core to support strong postgraduate outcomes in the knowledge economy.
