WSCUC Commons: AI: Policy to Practice
Description

The introduction of AI tools left many institutions grappling with developing and implementing policies in a rapidly changing environment. The current landscape is one of diverse policies that can vary significantly between and even within institutions. While some institutions “lean in” to AI as a tool for students, others prohibit the use of AI under academic misconduct policies. Similarly, some institutions are driving AI integration in advising, admissions, research, and more, while others hold back for various reasons.

In this WSCUC Commons sessions, participants are invited to bring their institutional AI policies to the table for an open conversation about the similarities and differences that exist in our institutional approaches and the considerations— both practical and ethical— that underlie them.

In advance of this session, please:

  1. Familiarize yourself with your institution’s AI policies for the purposes of discussion.
  2. Briefly explore Tracy Mendolia’s compilation of AI policies to get a sense of the breadth of institutional AI policies currently in force.

The WSCUC Commons are community-driven, collaborative, and interactive sessions that aren’t your typical concurrent. While there is no participant fee for WSCUC Commons sessions, registration is required as space is limited.
