Herbert Lee, Professor of Statistics in the Jack Baskin School of Engineering, has been Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at UC Santa Cruz since September 2010.
He provides administrative leadership in key academic areas, including program development and review, resource allocation, leadership development, accreditation, learning assessment, administrative processes, and faculty policy; in the position, he also oversees the UCSC Arboretum. For much of this time, he also served as the campus's diversity officer for faculty — helping promote diversity, equity, and inclusion at UCSC.
He received his B.S. from Yale University and Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University. He completed a post-doc at Duke University before joining the UCSC faculty in 2002.
