Rebecca Jabbour (PhD in Biological Anthropology, City University of New York) is a Professor of Biology at Saint Mary’s College of California. Her most recent leadership roles have been Chair of the Biology Department and Chair of the Program Review Committee. As Program Review Committee Chair, she co-led a comprehensive revision of the program review process. Faced with a backlog of delayed self-studies, she and the Director of Assessment and Educational Effectiveness identified barriers to faculty engagement with program review and brought together faculty and administration to craft integrative solutions. A key piece of this effort was reframing program review as support for the program’s process of continuous improvement and communicating this vision to the faculty. As Biology Department Chair during the disruptions of COVID, she worked to support faculty and ensure that students continued to have access to an excellent education. She then led the department through a major curriculum revision. She previously served on the Rank & Tenure Committee and the Core Curriculum Committee. Dr. Jabbour’s scholarship focuses on human and ape evolution. Her recent projects include descriptions of Neanderthal fossils from France and investigations of geographic variation in gorilla limb bones using multivariate analyses.
