The “big picture” of student success must be holistic and integrated, and assessment plans must be comprehensive to measure it. Assessment should utilize multiple forms of data, including national surveys, to measure program effectiveness, student outcomes, and to provide a national comparative perspective. This session presents the assessment plan for the cross-divisional learning community component of CSUDH’s restructured First-Year Experience. We will discuss how we use the BCSSE, NSSE, and FSSE surveys in learning community implementation and assessment, how they fit into the larger FYE integrated assessment, and we’ll share the national “big picture” context for a quality first-year experience based on recently released NSSE research.
