Effective Teachouts: Legal and Compliance Considerations in Closing a Program
Description

Institutions of higher education are facing pressures in enrollment and resources which force the evaluation of program offerings and sustainability. One of the possible outcomes of an effectiveness review is the determination that a program, or series of programs, must be closed and taught out. In addition to the academic planning that this decision requires, there are legal and compliance issues that impact the institution closing the program, the institution receiving the students (when a partner is selected to complete instruction) and the students. Understanding the legal and compliance implications and managing towards them can assist all of the constituents in achieving the most successful outcomes available.  This session seeks to address these issues for institutions which may be contemplating closing programs and for those who have been approached about being a teach out partner.
