TOUCHE: Establishing Equity Through a Student Publication Open to All Students
Description

Touche, the official student magazine of NewSchool of Architecture and Design was recently launched in Spring 2023 by students for students. A group of scholarship students identified an area of need and an opportunity when looking through archives of a discontinued institutional publication, Cartouche. In response, the students proposed that the former publication be reimagined as a more inclusive and equitable publication for all students and all majors. Their hypotheses were whether a digital format with only limited print edition magazines, rather than the outdated newspaper print, might be better received by students and be more sustainable. And if successful, could the new magazine become an elective course open to all students. The students succeeded both in creating and launching the magazine and in helping to establish the new elective course.
