"I think that there's this trend toward taking a step back and really thinking about what they want to do, and if it is college, thinking more critically about ‘Why college?’, and ‘College for what?’” For the last few weeks, we've been following along with EdSurge as they present a series titled "Doubting College." This series looks at how high schools students are approaching the decision around their future. And instead of just automatically pursuing #highered, they are taking a more critical look at this decision than past generations. These pieces illustrate the idea that colleges and universities need to really focus on demonstrating to high school students how they drive post-graduation outcomes that make the investment worth it. #WhatWereReading https://hubs.ly/Q02xBhvm0

Thrilled to support Sandra Sjoberg, PhD and our partners at Western Governors University in ensuring that their students have access to these critical opportunities. Academic leading industry-relevant curriculum and student successes, Professor, Professional Certified Marketer (PCM®), Certified Digital Marketing Professional (CDMP), Online Marketing Certified Associate (OMCA)
Experiential Learning is a game changer for students and institutions - since my days designing service-learning projects in the classroom, to short-term study abroad programs in Russia, and to online project-based experiential learning - each opportunity develops skills-based learning that integrates curriculum knowledge with collaborative, human interactive power skills. So excited to share this article on Experiential Learning! https://lnkd.in/gHp3Ea_e #wgu #experientiallearning #skills #highered #theevolllution #PeopleGrove

A great piece from Harvard Business Review to share with students and alumni navigating their careers. The best road trips are usually the ones where you take a random detour you didn't plan for. And when you tell your friends the stories from your road trip after it's over, isn't the one about the random detour the best one?! This is a great way to think about careers. It's rarely point A to point B with zero interruptions. It's all sorts of twists and turns that may or may not be planned for. Approaching the journey with this mindset helps you not only be prepared for the inevitable shifts, but also helps you make the most of them. #WhatWereReading https://hubs.ly/Q02wQcBc0

Shout out to our partners at Bowling Green State University for all they're doing to help students successfully design their lives!
There is so much more work to be done, but sometimes you do need to stop and smell the roses. What a year! This team is resilient, adaptable, hard-working and somehow continues to put up with me. This award is reflective of all that and so much more. The BGSU Kuhlin Hub for Career Design and Connections will continue to be a driving force in the value proposition for our students and corporate partners. And can I just say...what a cool looking award! Thanks again, Jeremy Podany and the team at the The Career Leadership Collective! https://lnkd.in/en5HvsRG

"Outcome-oriented metrics—which focus on jobs, student debt levels, return on investment (ROI), and other indicators of economic mobility—resonate more with today’s students. After all, they are the ones entering an increasingly complex and unpredictable labor market." There's a lot to unpack in this extensive report from Deloitte on #highered trends. What particularly stood out to us is the research around the need for colleges to articulate a compelling value proposition. The report argues that colleges need to reframe their story around student expectations, not their own institutional priorities. Of course, that means framing the story around post-graduation outcomes. And the best people to tell that story? The alumni who successfully achieved that objective. Incorporating graduates into the student experience helps reach students with the message they're looking for — that sticking around and getting a degree from this institution is worth the time, effort, and money. #WhatWereReading https://hubs.ly/Q02w2F3S0

Very interesting look from Eduventures at the perception similarities and differences between students and their families when it comes to what activities are most important during college in achieving the ultimate goal of a good post-graduation outcome. Both students and their families agree that career-related goals are the most important outcome of college. But they disagree on how to get there. Students say that their interaction with their networks and an internship are the most important factors in achieving success. Parents and families say that the school's reputation and the academic coursework are most important. Of course, the real answer here is the dreaded..."it depends." But one thing that is abundantly clear is that students and their families need to have a clear understanding of what their path could look like from Day 1 and what activities they should be leaning into to follow that path. #WhatWereReading https://hubs.ly/Q02vcDdj0
