Julie has concentrated experience advising colleges and universities on legal issues related to structural changes and transactions, governance, regulatory compliance, and accreditation. Julie’s practice also focuses on critical issues relating to: financial aid, including Title IV compliance, loan servicing and collections, and the changing field relating to borrower defense and gainful employment requirements; development, including fundraising, major gifts, and permissible use of charitable contributions; and campus safety, such as Title IX, the Clery Act, serving minors and emergency planning and response. She also provides legal counsel on issues and litigation related to faculty tenure, student conduct, disability accommodations and employment issues. Before joining Husch Blackwell, Julie served as the deputy general counsel for higher education and federal student aid at the U.S. Department of Education, and prior to that, as the chief of staff and special counsel to the general counsel for that agency. Julie started her practice working for the State of Ohio in the Education Section of the Attorney General’s Office. Julie also serves as the Office Managing Partner of Husch Blackwell’s Chicago office, and recently was an inaugural honoree for Chicago Lawyer’s Women in Law Award.
