Bio
Sharlene Sayegh is the Director of Institutional Assessment and ALO at California State University, Long Beach. Prior to this position, she served as Director of Program Review & Assessment for 10 years and was a member of CSULB’s History Department for 19 years. She is a graduate of WSCUC’s ALA (Cohort 3) and has facilitated assessment workshops for WSCUC, for the SAPAA knowledge community of NASPA, and for European institutions. Dr. Sayegh has served as an accreditation site reviewer as well as Assistant Chair for WSCUC accreditation teams.
Dr. Sayegh has received awards for her teaching and pedagogy including The World History Association’s Teaching Prize and CSULB’s Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award. Dr. Sayegh has presented her academic and assessment work at numerous conferences and co-authored the widely-used textbook History and Theory. She has merged her history training and assessment expertise by facilitating several professional-development workshops for Southern California high-school teachers and served numerous capacities at the AP World History readings.
A first-generation college student, Sharlene Sayegh earned her BA in History and MA in History and Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and her Ph.D. in History and Critical Theory from the University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Sayegh enjoys reading, hanging out with her family, and watching Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, and Star Trek.
