Dr. Camara is a teacher/scholar recognized for her outstanding achievements in the field of Communication Studies. Dr. Camara attained her Doctoral degree in Communication Studies, specializing in Interpersonal/Intercultural Communication, from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Camara's academic pursuits have centered on the intricate interplay between ethnicity, culture, and communication, particularly within the domains of intrapersonal and interpersonal interactions. Her work challenges the conventional understanding of diversity, advocating that it encompasses more than just ethnic and cultural distinctions but delves into power dynamics and how they shape human relationships. Her current work focuses on the theory of change and institutional-led assessment models In 2023, her campus contributions were acknowledged when she was honored with the prestigious CSUN High Impact Award for Innovation.

As an educator, she is the former Chair and currently a full professor in the Department of Communication Studies and the Director of Academic Assessment and Program Review at California State University, Northridge.
