WSCUC institutions are committed to equity, inclusion, access, diversity, and belonging.
The DEI Special Interest Group offers an opportunity for us to gather together and be in community with each other as we explore and critically examine various aspects of evidence and effectiveness in our individual, combined, and systems-level DEIAB and justice efforts.
We will explore questions like:
- How can we practice equity-minded data collection in student-centered ways?
- How can faculty, staff, and administrators proactively support DEI efforts?
- How can we support trauma-informed and healing-centered ways of being in all of our DEI endeavors—particularly in how we assess efforts?
- What are the current challenges we are facing given our socio-political climate?
- How can we maximize our resources to advance the efficacy of our justice, safety, and success efforts?
The above are some of the many questions we would like to explore together. Please come prepared to share success stories and discuss challenges in the advancement of DEI in your context. This could include identifying and responding to needs, setting goals and measuring progress and indicators of success. We will also use this time in fellowship to follow up on items raised in previous meetings and to take stock of the current landscape and plan better for a future that powerfully integrates diversity, equity, and inclusion into the fabric of our existence as educators, educational institutions, and in our educational practice. We hope to enhance our connection and community with each other and hone our abilities to respond to social justice threats, even as we envision new plans and programs for inclusion and belonging.
Please join us! If you are interested in DEIAB, justice, and/or student success, this SIG conversation is for you. Our open-for-all discussion will be guided by WSCUC’s Equity and Inclusion Policy, and will be facilitated by practitioners committed to DEIAB and justice in their own distinct ways. Please join us in creating a safe, empowering space of synergy and energy around this topic as we build collective strength and stamina to take action. As one, we can explore common and distinct priorities as we engage with each other--a broad representation of WSCUC colleagues who care about equity and opportunity and want to make a difference.
