Name
“The Good, The Bad and In Transition” Continues
Description
In 2022, a small, private, non-profit HSI administered a climate assessment gauging student perspectives on racial and ethnic diversity and the progress of diversity efforts (n=620). Improvements, troubling areas, and action steps were presented at ARC2023. This presentation serves as a follow-up in which 31 in-depth interviews were conducted, 12 which chronicled the perceptions and experiences of Latine/x students. Interview questions were designed to examine lower than expected perceptions of visibility and of being an “insider” despite their new majority status (49.3%). After revealing results, equity-centered practices and policies that may move institutions from serving to thriving to graduating Latine/x students will be discussed.
